Sustainability Committee
Sustainability is at the core of our work. At the IIM we seek to create a more sustainable society, and to do so we must start with our own centre.
As one of the leading multidisciplinary marine research centres on the Iberian Peninsula, at the Institute we use our research to benefit society and make its relationship, with the ocean and the rest of our world, a healthy and sustainable one in the long term.
In addition, we are fully committed to the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals and the European Green Deal. A set of initiatives aimed at putting the EU on the path towards a green transition, with the ultimate goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
In this line, and to minimize environmental impacts and comply with the aforementioned SDGs and the European Green Deal commitments, the IIM-CSIC Sustainability Committee seeks to promote sustainability in all areas of the centre, promoting a culture of respect for the environment.
The Committee's functions include identifying and reducing the environmental impact of the IIM-CSIC's activities and operation, implementing waste management, energy efficiency and resource saving policies, and promoting sustainable practices among staff. In addition, the committee advises on the adoption of clean technologies, promotes environmental training and awareness, and is a pioneer at the Spanish Research Council in integrating a sustainable approach to reduce, as far as possible, the environmental impacts of research projects, from their planning to their execution and the dissemination of their results.
