Research
Research is the core of the Institute of Marine Research's work. Working along 3 Transversal Research & Innovation Programmes (or TRIPs), which intertwine and connect to each other, the researchers and technicians at the IIM-CSIC look for answers within 9 different research lines.
These research lines represent the wide range of research interests and capacities of the Institute. To read more on the center’s commitment to advance society's knowledge about the ocean and everything that stems from it, you can view our Research Strategy by clicking on the button below.
Understanding ocean systems will allow us to have a transversal vision of the processes that affect global change in order to fight against them more efficiently.
It is necessary to advance in knowledge about the functions of ecosystems, which are being eroded by climate change, the overexploitation of resources, pollution, etc.
Nutrition, food security and the sustainable development of food systems are among the highest priorities of the UN's 2030 Agenda. For this reason, at the IIM we work to achieve higher quality and much safer seafood products and we look for ways to develop new products with added value from fishing residues.
