Sci-Art | World Oceans Day
The word “arela” in Galician stands for a wish, a desire, a strong craving for something and the will to get it.
On the occasion of World Ocean Day, promoted by the United Nations & celebrated worldwide every 8th June, we launched the campaign #ArelaDeMar, so that we could unite our community to express all the things that the ocean provides us with and the wishes we have for it through the means of artistic creation.
This campaign was coordinated by the Institute of Marine Research - CSIC’s Public Engagement Unit (UCC+i, IIM-CSIC) and the Institute of Marine Sciences - CSIC’s Marine Culture Committee (ICM-CSIC) with the collaboration of CEAB-CSIC (Catalonia), IMEDEA-IB-CSIC (Balearic Islands) & ICMAN-CSIC (Andalusia), as well as the support of several other organisations.
Take a look at our #ArelaDeMar Gallery to find out about all the creations used by our community to express their “arela” for the ocean.
