Equality & Diversity Committee
As people who research the world around us, at the IIM-CSIC we are well aware of the diversity that occurs in nature, and we know the scientific community is no exception.
For this reason, the Equality and Diversity Committee (CIED) was born as a team that works to implement measures that help resolve conflicts and clarify the issues related to discrimination based on gender, race, functional and/or affective-sexual diversity in science.
The work group strives to prevent these behaviors and provide information. It works to develop protocols and implement them in our center, therefore creating a safe and open space for all the people who make science here (technicians, researches and all our personnel).
The committee is currently in its constitution and "officialization" process to align the Institute with international and state-wide programmes and objectives in terms of equality and diversity. These include the Sustainable Development Goals such as SDG-5: Gender Equality, the objectives set for the European Research Area (ERA) and for the whole European research & innovation space by the European Commission and the legal mandates set by the Spanish legislation on equality and diversity protection and inclusion.
The equality and diversity team at the IIM aims to follow the steps of other entities and seek coordination with them; for example, other CSIC Committees, such as the CSIC Women and Science Committee, related associations, such as PRISMA - Association for Affective-Sexual and Gender Diversity in Science, Technology and Innovation, and initiatives with extensive experience, such as the 11F initiative or Oceánicas developed by the IEO-CSIC.

The world of science and technology is not entirely objective. Every person working in science has a gender-bias, like any other member of our society. It is important to have resources to be able to leave these biases out of the research activity.
